I have been a host for over 25 years to students from many different countries and enjoy meeting students from other cultures and countries. I am a chatty person, and am willing to help you improve your English. I enjoy cooking and so will provide good , home made, seasonal food. I will care for you throughout your stay and provide information on the locality. I can also offer you private English lessons.

We are both graduates. Michael is a semi retired Mining and Minerals Engineering Consultant, who has travelled on business worldwide. He enjoys tennis, swimming, politics , cars and gardening. I am a retired lawyer and teacher. I like cooking, gardening, music, history, reading , theatre , politics, pottery and cinema. We both enjoy foreign travel and have driven our Triumph Stag car to many European countries on holidays. We both enjoy conversation and would be willing to chat to you to help improve your English. We enjoy the company of young people and are interested in other cultures and countries. We have a married daughter who is a medical doctor and lives in Birmingham, a large city about 50 miles from us. Her husband is a criminal lawyer. We are grandparents as they have two little boys aged 4 and 2.

Description

I have a double fronted , detached bungalow in a pleasant area of Nottingham. We have a lovely garden , an outdoor table tennis table and a piano which students may use. Your bedroom is spacious and well equipped. We have WiFi access.

I can accommodate either one student using a double / single bed or two students, of different nationalities, in twin beds. Students will share the family bathroom with a large shower, toilet and washbasin. Lessons are in the dining room. Our sitting room overlooks a pretty garden.

Breakfast is usually served between 8-9 am but can be prepared at a time to suit on prior notice and dinner would be early evening, around 6.30-7pm unless otherwise arranged.

Local Amenities Description

West Bridgford Centre is a 2 minute bus ride from my house or a 10 minute walk. There are plenty of shops, supermarkets, banks, a library, chemists, book shop, charity shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There is a nice park in the centre. A Farmers' Market is held twice a month . It is a 20 minute walk to the banks of the River Trent which runs through Nottingham. There are cafes on the embankment and much activity on the river with skulling, canoes etc. A little further down river there is the National Watersport Centre. The city is vibrant . It takes about 20 minutes to the city centre by bus or a 50 minute walk for the more energetic person. The city has several cinema complexes and 2 theatres, an ice rink, castle, some stately homes, many cafes , pubs and restaurants , galleries , tourist attractions and an excellent shopping mall with a good variety of shops and boutiques. There are 2 football stadia near our home and a cricket ground which hosts international matches throughout the year. Most of the attractions are easily accessible either on foot or by bus or tram. The city has two Universities and there is a large student population in Nottingham. The Market Square frequently hosts exhibitions or mini markets . During the summer school holidays ( July-September) the Market Square is turned into a fun area with beach and paddling area for children, deck chairs, fair rides, bars and other attractions. At the end of July/ early August, the Council puts on a Riverside Event at Trent Bridge over three days , with fairground attractions, food and drinks and bands playing music. There is always something going on in the city. In the winter there is an outdoor mini ice rink and a Christmas market set up in the market square.
